Long Distance Relationship
My LDR is just about to complete 3 years. I met my girlfriend whilst working abroad, and ever since I left every day I am not with her is a struggle. I study in the UK, so I am away from her 3 months at a time, but I get to spend long periods of time with her when I do see her, always at least a month, usually more. Even tho people think I'm mad and are sure it wont work out, I am determined to prove them wrong, and am prepared to do anything to make it work. We have just over another year living like this, when finally the day will come that we never have to be apart again. I think the happiness of that day will completely blow my mind. Maybe it wont even feel real straight away. Sometimes I question myself alot, and think about giving up my studies - sometimes I think that why would I be apart from the person that I love and that loves me. But then I look at the bigger picture and realise that if I've been able to it this long, I can do it some more. Yes it sucks not being with her, but if you are in a similar situation just think that some people are with their partner every day, but aren't really in love with them. We are lucky to have found the one that is for us, especially being from different countries, cultures, continents, and we cannot throw that away just because everyone tells us LDRs dont work. I wish you who are reading any maybe have a LDR too the very best of luck, fight for what you believe in, and remember that if we put into life what everyone else does, we will be like everyone else (who doubts our abilities to make a LDR work) but if we put in a bit of extra blood sweat and tears, and always maintain perspective, we will stand out from the rest.

HANG IN THERE!! Your day will come when you and your lady will be in the same place at the same time, for good!! Stay the course with your studies, education is always a sacrifice but well worth it in the end.

I think your line of thinking is excellent and positive...you're right, some people never find a person that they truly love. A key thing that has helped me stay grounded being sincerely grateful for finding a love that you and your partner/gf have in the 1st place. I see so many disfunctional relationships around me and I realize what he and I have is very special and real. Oh and f--- the naysayers! I have found that some people become green with envy when they see a relationship overcome seemingly unbeatable odds.

Hearing your story is very inspiring, I truly felt alone in this journey until I found this website. My boyfriend (he prefers "fella" haha) and I are coming up on 2 years, I live in Wash., DC and he lives in London. My visa just got rejected (damn Home Office!), a huge disappointment, but I just try to stay positive and to have faith and being strong in the meantime until we see each other again. Thank goodness for Skype!

You are an adorable couple, good luck to you both!

Me and my fiance have been apart 3... going on 3 1/2 years this June... but we are finally moving in together!! He lives in Germany, I live in the US. Its been terribly hard at times, but I absolutely agree with you--its well worth the wait knowing that this is the best person for you and we are lucky to have them in our lives.

All the best to you! Thanks for your words of support! And good luck. One more year is nothing--you can do it! :)
